I took a short trip out of Colorado to hike a couple of 14ers (mountains with peaks over 14k feet elevation). One of them, Mt. Huron was about an hour south of Leadville, CO and staying there made the most sense. The S.L.umber Yard could be best described as a collection of cabins/tiny homes as opposed to a traditional hotel. In fact, there are only 13 "cabins" available to rent on the property.

The property is located just Northeast of the main downtown area of Leadville and is easy to find. There's no traditional lobby or front desk. The morning of your stay, you're sent a text with you cabin. The door is unlocked just before check-in time and the keys are left inside for you. There are a couple of communal spaces between the cabins including some hammocks and fire pits.

I asked for a slightly early check-in at 3:30pm instead of the normal 4pm time and was told that wouldn't be a problem. Despite no front desk or on-site management, I found it very easy to communicate through text with any questions. A crew member is available between 9am and 8pm through text. I arrived just before 3:30 and my cabin, "Georgia" was unlocked as promised.

The inside of the cabin was clean with a very well-stocked kitchenette in the main living area. I appreciated the little touches in the cabin -- a record player with multiple records stocked in the room as well as a cup full of items to help guests with the altitude. Leadville is located at 10,152 feet elevation and is the highest incorporated city in the US. The bathroom was small but fully functional. My only complaint there would be there's no bar soap. A liquid soap pump was located next to the sink and the shower had a wall-mounted dispenser with shampoo, conditioner, and body wash.
One thing to note is that there is no central A/C or heat in the cabin. In fact, there's not even a window unit. The cabin has floor heating that apparently can efficiently heat the entire space. I stayed in September so I definitely didnt need that. It was slightly warm in the space when I entered but After opening a few windows and utilizing the included floor fan, it became very comfortable.
On the desk, I found some laminated papers with information about the cabin and city. I found it very amusing that each cabin was named after a historical Leadville "lady of the night."
Overall, I found the S.L.umberyard in Leadville, CO perfectly suited my needs for a quick overnight stay before a long hike. I'd definitely recommend it if you're looking for a traditional hotel alternative in the area.
